IOTA in the future actually plans to have smart contracts, dAPPS, ICO's etc.
With the blochain, activities such as these (and dAPPS ontop of it, such as Cryptokitties/Ethereum), actually "cripple" the network and make it unusable/slow (as we saw in December) and have higher fees.

If I'm not mistaken, you even get some free iotas for doing this (the Fund is set up by community donations, not the IOTA Foundation) There's even websites (such as the IOTA Spam Fund), where you can sign up and spam the tangle with valueless transactions to help stabalize and speed up the tangle network. That's why "attackers" who spam the network with transactions are theoretically actually helping the tangle. Since every transaction is feeless, you can "spam" as much as you want without a cost. IOTA has a whole different target marget (machine 2 machine payments, valueless transactions, data transactions, etc.), and there's already Partnerships with companies such as BOSCH and Volkswagen (and many other smaller ones), who are most likely in the process of testing it. So it's not just about "User A" sending some money to an exchange and back - with no other uses besides that (i.e.: most cryptocurrencies at this point).
